Bozeman Named Assistant State Forester

State Forester Charlie Morgan announced today that Russell Bozeman has been named the Assistant State Forester for the Mississippi Forestry Commission.

“We are very fortunate to have Russell in this role,” said Morgan. “His technical and communication skills have proven to be an asset for the agency and he brings to the position key leadership attributes that will serve the agency and forestry in Mississippi well.”

Bozeman has served the agency as director of forest protection and forest information for the past five years. This role has included supervision over the agency’s wildfire response efforts, public outreach and education division and the urban forestry division. As assistant state forester, Bozeman will continue to direct these program areas of the agency, as well as assist the state forester in developing new programs as needed to ensure healthy and productive forests for the people of Mississippi. Additionally, his new duties include acting as liaison to sister state and federal agencies, partner associations and the state’s offices of elected officials.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission’s mission is to provide active leadership in forest protection, forest management, forest inventory and effective forest information distribution, necessary for Mississippi’s sustainable forest-based economy.
